The Snow Castle is perhaps the most well-known of Kemi’s attractions. Since 1996, Kemi’s Snow Castle has been a wintertime landmark in Kemi. Seawater is used to construct amazing walls, towers, and ice and snow sculptures. During the day, you can visit LumiLinna and explore the LumiHotel rooms, which are all unique. Every year, the castle’s motif changes.

The Icebreaker Sampo, which offers a unique and authentic cruise experience in the Bay of Bothnia, is another well-known attraction. Under the weight of the icebreaker, you may listen to the ice crack, see the open scenery, and even float in the middle of the ice blocks. Aside from these unique places, Kemi has a lot of culture and history to visit, as well as magnificent marine life!

Snow Castle, Kemi

Since 1996 the largest snowcastle on eath is built every year in Kemi. It is made of the snow and the ice of the sea. Special about it is, that the architecture changes every year. For now the highest tower of the castle has been 20 meters high and the longest wall around 1 kilometer. Inside the snowcastle is a hotel, a chapel and a restaurant, where it is even possible to get married. But not only in the winter you can enjoy an magnificent snow adventure, for the summer time there is a SnowExperience365 inside.

Icebreaker Sampo

The Icebreaker ship with the name Sampo is on a port near Kemi, Lapland. The ship was built in 1960 in Helsinki and working for the finnish goverment unitl 1987. I t was sold to prive persons three years later. Further, Sampo it is one of the few icebreakers on the world that take passengers, Moreover you can book a cruise and get to know about the history of the ship, explore it yourself and try – at the same time -ice floating in the Baltic Sea.

Kemi Church

Kemi Church was finshed in 1902 and is located in the city centre of Kemi. It is a really nice building with a gothic influence.

The Smoke Hut of ”Yli-Jaakheikki”

The museum is located at the inner old harber of Kemi and is open only in summer. The hut was built in 1796 and still in a very good shape for its age. Enjoy some historical finnish vibes. The entry is free!

Perämeren Jähti

The sailing ship Perämeren Jähti was built according to 19th Century building tradition. They offer a unique sailing experience in the Baltic Sea. You can book tours between 4 and 9 hours. Check for more information.

Art Museum

The Kemi art museum is the olders art muesum in Northern Finland. It offers anually  6 – 7 changing exhibitions, as well as different celebrations and concerts.
