A cabin like a hotel room – Finland night train

Finnish railway operator VR is procuring nine new sleeper cars and eight car-carrier coaches for night train traffic, which will be available by the end of 2025. The sleeper and car-carrier coaches will be manufactured at Škoda Transtech’s factory in Kajaani, Finland.

The popularity of night train travel has increased in recent years. What could be more pleasant than enjoying good food from the restaurant car for dinner and breakfast and spending the journey sleeping! We believe that the enthusiasm for night train travel will continue to grow.

The new coaches meet the wishes of passengers and make the night train an even more enjoyable experience. The interior of the sleeper cabins has been modified so that, for example, working and dining in your own cabin will be even more comfortable.

The new coaches will be put into service by the end of 2025. They will be used in train compositions on night train routes, i.e. from Helsinki, Turku and Tampere to Oulu, Rovaniemi, Kemijärvi and Kolari. You can learn more about  current night trains and night train routes here.

The new night train coaches will be manufactured at Škoda Transtech’s factory in Otanmäki, Kajaani. The procurement also includes an option to purchase an additional 30 sleeper coaches and 30 car-carriers. These would make it possible to increase the number of night train services or routes in the future and to replace the old blue sleeper coaches, which will reach the end of their service life in the early 2030s.
