Rovaniemi local transport service from Airport
The long waited local Bus connection from the Rovaniemi airport will start from 5 December. There was no local transport service from the airport so far. The decision of starting local bus service came today (22 November) in a meeting of the Rovaniemi city council. The new bus service will increase the number of passengers ahead of busy tourist season.
According to the decsion, the new local transport from the city centre and the Rovaniemi airport will start as a pilot phase from December to February. Local bus service Linkkari will operate in between every 30-40 minute and between 8 am to 8 pm everyday.
Local transport connection from airport will make it easier to all the travellers who want to use the public transport. There’s a huge demand of local transportation between city centre and the airport all round the year. In winter it becomes more difficult to reach to the city centre without private cars or taxi services. The new decision will increase the number of passengers and the efficiency of local transports system.
Rovaniemi airport – city centre bus
The Community Planning Board also approved the establishment of a local transport line between the city center and the airport as an experiment for the period 5 December 2022 – 28 February 2023. Linkkari will start operating on the route during the trial period every day at 30-40 minute intervals around 8 am to 8 pm. Although market-based traffic to the airport has already been created for the tourist season that has already started, according to the board, it is necessary to increase the supply of public transport to the airport.
Better Service for the Tourists
The new local bus connection from the airport will increase the number 0f passengers and the ticket sales. A record number of Christmas tourists are arriving in Finnish Lapland during the upcoming winter season. Multiple airlines, such as Air France from France, EasyJet from the UK, Eurowings from Dusseldorf and Turkish Airlines from Istanbul have noticed the market demand, and are now filling it during the upcoming winter season. The upcoming winter season is expected to be breaking the record number of tourists in Rovaniemi. There are regular flights to Rovaniemi from 10 different destination during this winter season. Most of the international flights are operated between November to March.
